Nowhere in the world can you see the evolution and cohabitation of old and new than in the booming metropolises of China. Compact and mazelike hutongs and laneways nestle themselves between modern monsters, while the life that goes on within is stubborn, refusing to give into the beasts demands. Smells of food escape open windows while the soft red glow of lanterns give a haunting but comforting feeling. Men in clad in padded and patterned pajamas walk along side ladies dressed in next season’s fashions. The streets are full of ‘AACKS, CCCHAP’S and HACKS’, while groups of men get competitive over their routine games of mahjong. In the background cranes build building after bone, each one growing taller and stronger than the last. Equipped with their bright new LED faces, they loom over their elders with a sadistic grin. Who’s going to give?
