The record for the most expensive antique porcelain holds a Chinese Qianlong vase, which in 2010 was sold for a staggering $53 million. It’s origin was estimated for 18th century China, during the reign of Kangxi, (康熙帝) the fourth emperor in the Qing (清朝) dynasty in earily 1700’. It is 16 inches tall and is adorned with engravings of fish. It is said that the vase stayed in the royal family, in Mainland China till the second opium war, 1860, when it found a new home in England. This rare antiquity was discovered during a house clearance. The owners claim they inherited the vase from their father and knew nothing of its high value, which was estimated by the London Bainbridges auction house to be nearly $2 million. The bidding lasted 30 minutes with a record-breaking result. The private buyer remained anonymous but we know he came from mainland of China. [Weronika Nossowicz]
