A fully grown chicken has about 1,500 feathers. Make of that what you will. Maybe tell a prospective boss at a job interview or something to impress him or her with your wide berth of strange and generally unusable knowledge. Or. If you get really lucky, then two things might occur. First, someone might ask you or a group of people how many feathers a chicken has. Secondly, you will remember that you read this (and that the number was 1,500) whereupon you’ll tell them and look like either a fun tidbit wiz or quick-witted joker. Speaking of feathers though: high quality feather dusters are made with ostrich feathers. This is because ostrich feathers have tiny barbules that act as tiny fingers when they encounter dust. They are most often used on or around electronics due to their natural resistance to static electricity and are generally inexpensive. Again, speaking of feathers (which, I’ll admit, I brought up) the bird with the fewest feathers is the Ruby Hummingbird, which has 940 in total. The title of most feathered goes to the Whistling Swan, which has been known to wear as many as 25,000 during winter months. Maybe you’ll need this information sometime and you’ll be glad you made it through this and that you have a good memory. [Ryan Nimmo]
